herdr

Agents that outlive the window.

⌘-click an agent in the launch menu and it runs inside Herdr, a local terminal runtime. Quit Starkomand and the agent keeps working; its window comes back when you open the canvas again.

The Starkomand canvas with several agent windows, a hand-drawn diagram beside one of them and a browser preview beside another.

Herdr on the canvas.

  • One ⌘-click

⌘-click or right-click any agent in the launch menu. Same CLI, same folder, same canvas tools, with an ∞ Persistent badge on the window.

  • Nothing to install

The first persistent launch downloads Herdr’s pinned release and checks its SHA-256 before running it. A herdr you installed yourself always wins.

  • Windows come back by themselves

Reopen the canvas and every persistent agent is where you left it. After a Herdr restart, windows rebind to the restored terminals.

  • Terminals you opened in Herdr

An ∞ chip in the launcher counts Herdr terminals that are not on the canvas yet; add one or all of them.

  • Remove or stop

A persistent window’s ✕ asks: Remove from canvas keeps the agent running, Stop agent ends it.

  • By voice

Hold Left Option and say “open a persistent Claude agent” or “launch two persistent Codex agents”.

Set up in a minute.

  1. Pick an agent

⌘-click the canvas, then ⌘-click Claude Code, Codex or any agent row.

  2. Let Herdr arrive

The first time, the menu offers Download Herdr · 21 MB. Your agent starts when it finishes.

  3. Quit whenever

Close or quit Starkomand. The agent keeps working, and its window is back when you return.

Worth knowing.

  • After a macOS restart, a conversation returns only if the CLI restores it through Herdr; otherwise the pane comes back as a shell.
  • Persistent agents do not join squads yet, and the diagrams and previews they make draw no line back to their window.
  • Local Herdr sessions only; Starkomand does not manage Herdr over SSH.

Questions.

What is Herdr?

A local terminal runtime from herdr.dev. It keeps terminals in a background server, so the program inside one keeps running when the app that showed it closes.

Do I have to install Herdr myself?

No. Starkomand downloads its pinned release the first time you ask for a persistent agent. If you already use Herdr, Starkomand uses your copy and your update channel.

Does quitting Starkomand stop my Claude Code sessions?

Not persistent ones. Starkomand never stops the Herdr server, so a persistent Claude Code or Codex session keeps working while the app is closed. Ordinary windows end with the app.

Can I open the same agent in Herdr’s own terminal?

Yes. Herdr owns the terminal and the canvas window is one client of it. Starkomand never takes input over from a client that is already attached.

Bring the agents you already pay for.

Every agent, every feature, free for 3 days. Your CLIs are already installed; the canvas takes a minute.
